Waterfront Pearl: A Harmonious Blend of Urban Design and Nature

Yun Du's Award-Winning Design Fuses Tradition and Modernity

Yun Du's Waterfront Pearl, a waterfront park in Nanbu, China, is a testament to the harmonious blend of urban design and nature. Drawing inspiration from the city's history and its geographical features, the design has won the Silver A' City Planning and Urban Design Award in 2020.

The Waterfront Pearl is a unique urban design project that draws inspiration from the city's history and its geographical features. The design is based on the story of Da Yu controlling the floods, a significant event in the city's history. The park aims to highlight the history of Yuji and create a cultural card for the integration of water cities in Nanbu.

What sets the Waterfront Pearl apart from other designs is its aim to create a characteristic tourism destination that reflects the authenticity and uniqueness of the area. The design forms the core engine to drive urban development, bringing sustainable development impetus to the city with its diversified settings.

The realization of the design involved breaking through the connection between mountains and rivers, balancing the proportion of cities and nature, and creating an ideal urban ecological axis. The construction of the complex forms was made possible through a parameterized approach and the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) for design and management. The roof of the structure is shaped into a landscape of accessible vegetation, adding to the overall aesthetic appeal of the design.

The Waterfront Pearl is a large-scale project covering an area of 1.2 million square meters. It incorporates both landscape and architectural design, making it a landmark of Jialing waterfront and a holiday engine of tourism in Nanbu. The project started in February 2018 and is expected to be completed in 2021.

One of the challenges faced in the design process was maintaining the original waterfront ecology and reducing the impact of site development. To overcome this, the design introduced Jialing River into the site to create a closer intuitive experience for people's hydrophilic activities. The design also strengthened the natural context, forming a secluded Southern painting scene by combing the terrain of the earth landscape and planting plants.

In conclusion, Yun Du's Waterfront Pearl is a remarkable example of urban design that seamlessly blends tradition and modernity. The project showcases the designer's ability to create a design that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also sustainable and in harmony with nature. The design has rightfully earned its place as a Silver A' City Planning and Urban Design Award winner, reflecting its outstanding expertise and innovation.
